Amid ongoing communal violence in India caused due to blasphemous remarks made by Bhartiya Janata Party spokesperson, Nupur Sharma, about the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), pictures are going viral over social media from Bangladesh with the following claim:
“Breaking News: Prophet (PBUH) That woman made abusive comments about) Nupur Sharma being beaten by the public while shopping in the Delhi market. Alhamdulillah”

In order to verify the claim, we performed a reverse image search and found that the shared pictures date back to 6th November 2008.
Nupur Sharma crashed the gate to mark her protest against Prof. SAR Geelani at a public meeting at Delhi University’s North Campus, on 6th November 2008 in New Delhi, India.

We also checked for keywords “Nupur Sharma beaten up” and found no reports from any major media outlet.
Our fact-check confirmed that fourteen years old pictures were shared with false context and linked to ongoing communal violence in India.
