Introduction:
Recently, by sharing a post through social media, it is being claimed that 50 Taka coins are going
to be launched in the market of Bangladesh. The image in the post contains pictures of two
coins, one of which reads (on Right Side) ‘Golden Jubilee of Independence 50 (1971-2021) Fifty
Taka’. The other (On Left Side) has a picture of Bangabandhu and above it is written – Golden
Jubilee of Independence 1971-2021 Fifty 50 rupees. 
It is written in the caption of the post – The journey of 50 Taka coins has started in Bangladesh.
Bank will release the coins in the market from 10 th th February, 2022.

Fact Check:

Using the keyword search method, a report was found in the online edition of Bangla Tribune 23rd March, 2021, entitled ” New Coins of Three Designs Coming to the Golden Jubilee of Independence”. The original news was posted on Bangladesh Newspaper, Bangla Tribune, with the title ‘50-taka commemorative notes and silver coin on the golden jubilee of independence’. These commemorative notes and silver coins will be available at the Motijheel office counter of Bangladesh Bank from 26th March, 2022. Later customers will be able to take these notes and coins from other branch offices.

Investigation revealed that the 50-taka coin is not a conventional coin but a commemorative coin. This claim is false and misleading. Pictures of 50-taka coins printed on the occasion of golden jubilee of independence are being shared with fake claims. Circulating such news is to mislead general public.
